DOUGLAS — Former Douglas and Coffee County resident Paola Yarberry remains detained in an Immigration and Naturalizations Services detention center after she was granted another continuance on Tuesday, October 30, in her ongoing court battle, where she faces charges of entering the United States illegally.

Yarberry, who was arrested on Wednesday, May 2, at a local Douglas restaurant by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement and has been detained every since, has yet to make an appearance before immigration judge William A. Cassidy, instead allowing her attorney, high profile Atlanta-based immigration attorney Socheat Chea, to appear on her behalf.

According to Susan Eastwood of the United States Department of Homeland Security’s Executive Office of Immigration Review, at Tuesday’s hearing Chea again requested the continuance, which Judge Cassidy granted, but the judge did state that he would have approved documents that would have initiated Yarberry’s removal from the United States.  Judge Cassidy also stated that the case needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

Yarberry’s next hearing is slated for late December in Atlanta.
