The Douglas News Worrell Reward Upped to $25K Robert Preston, Jr. DOUGLAS — Almost two years after the tragic murder of Doris Spillers Worrell, the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of her killers has been raised to $25,000. Worrell was shot and killed insider her family business on September 20, 2006. Days after the murder, Governor Sonny Perdue announced a $5,000 reward in the case. Friday morning, family and friends gathered at the Coffee County Courthouse to announce that the Spillers family is adding $20,000 to the reward fund, in addition to the $5,000 offered by Governor Perdue. The Spillers family also announced that a billboard advertising the reward has been placed on Highway 441 a few miles south of Douglas. Le Ann Tuggle, Doris Worrell’s sister, read a statement on the front steps of the courthouse. Here is a portion of her remarks: “Doris was my little sister. She was also a daughter, a wife, a mother, a cousin, a friend- who was suddenly taken from this world in which she tried so hard to make a positive difference every day. The Spillers family is offering a $20,000 reward in addition to the $5,000 issued by Governor Perdue. The total amount of the reward is now $25,000. The money will be given for information leading to the arrest and conviction of all those involved in this heinous crime. In addition, we have placed a billboard on Highway 441 South in Douglas in hopes that it will spark someone to come forward with additional information that will lead to the truth. We truly believe that there are others out there who know what happened to Doris. We plead with you to come forth with answers so that we can have closure in Doris’ death.” On Thursday, March 13, Glidden Humberto Rodriguez, 39, and Brandon Eugene Cage, 20, both of Douglas, were arrested on conspiracy to commit murder charges in the Worrell homicide. On Tuesday, April 29, Rodriguez and Cage were released on bond.
